SINGAPORE: International ballroom dancers put up a high energy performance called "FloorPlay", earlier Tuesday evening.

The show runs till Sunday and Singapore is the latest stop in a world tour that includes Japan, the United States and Canada.

This high-voltage ballroom dancing for the 21st century aims to bring back the pulse of the old-fashioned dancehalls.

Jason Gilkison, artistic director and choreographer of "FloorPlay", said: "The salsa number is one of the ones we do that's quite current but we also go back to the 1940s, to the Swing era and we want to recapture that exciting feel of the Savoy ballroom back in the 1920s and 30s."

The performance includes Latin and Ballroom classics such as the tango, rumba and waltz.

The 18 dancers are mainly from Australia and Europe, and they are used to 12-hour daily rehearsal sessions, combined with a high energy diet.

Jessica Raffa, one of the dancers, said: "The costumes in our show are absolutely stunning, they are sort of haute couture costumes designed by John Van Gastel, an Australian designer. They are very easy to dance in and they feel great... beautiful, vibrant colours."
