SINGAPORE: Demand for "Broadway Beng 3" - the Hokkien-Mandarin-English cabaret extravaganza - has been so, erm, demanding, that its producers, The Dream Academy Productions, have decided to extend its run to next Saturday. That's an unprecedented 21-day run.

"The response has been overwhelming, we didn't think we'd be doing so many shows this year," said producer Denise Low of the Dream Academy.

"Our original end date was May 4, but we extended it to May 11 and then May 15. We definitely have to end on May 17 - otherwise the theatre will kick us out!"

The success of "Broadway Beng", a character played by actor Sebastian Tan, echoes that of another Dream Academy production, the "Dim Sum Dollies".

Incidentally, Dream Academy founder and head Dolly, Selena Tan, is directing this show.

"We have had similar long runs before, but that was for Dim Sum Dollies in 2005," said Low. "I don't think we've had such a long run since then."

Are there plans to continue the show at another venue?

"No, I don't think so. At least, not for this year." said Low.

Guess this is the last big beng we'll see in a while then.

"Broadway Beng 3" runs until May 17, 8pm (3pm matinee on Sat and Sun); no show on Monday. Venue: Drama Centre, National Library Building, Victoria Street. Tickets at S$37, S$47, S$57 and S$67 are available from Sistic. -
