Mark Lee turns museum ambassador

SINGAPORE : Comedian Mark Lee added museum ambassador to his resume last year and now MediaCorp actress and presenter Vivian Lai is following in his footsteps and becoming a museum guide in the new TV series, "Amuse Me."

Held in conjunction with Explore Singapore! 2007, a national campaign for heritage and museum outreach, the three-part series sees Lee and Lai being cast as intrepid museum guides, taking viewers on their quest to uncover facts about Singapore’s past as they explore the city’s museums and libraries.

This should be an easy role for Lee who won the hearts of many with his entertaining yet fact-filled tours at the National Museum of Singapore during National Heritage Board's (NHB) Explore Singapore! campaign last year.

Explore Singapore! which ran from 10 November to 31 December 2007, featured 86 island-wide fun-filled activities at 20 museums and the National Library. It was such a success that it saw a significant 71 percent increase in participants from its inaugural pilot run in 2006.

Mr Michael Koh, CEO of the National Heritage Board said, “I am deeply encouraged by the results of Explore Singapore! 2007 which made our heritage institutions and museums more accessible and attracted new supporters from the community. I am confident that our fun and family-friendly television series featuring well-loved personalities Mark Lee and Vivian Lai will spark even greater interest in Singapore’s rich heritage and culture.”

Visit
www.museums.com.sg from 16 May for a sneak peek of the TV series. "Amuse Me" premieres 23 May at 8pm, on MediaCorp’s Channel 8.
