Country singer Carrie Underwood has been voted the most popular “American Idol” winner in an AOL Televison poll.

Underwood, who has gone on to win Grammy, American Music, Billboard and Country Music awards since she was crowned Season 4 "Idol" winner in 2005, took 54 percent of the 1.3 million votes.

25-year-old Underwood has released hits like “Inside Your Heaven,” “Jesus Take the Wheel” and “Before He Cheats,” and has sold over eight million albums to date in the United States alone. She has crossover appeal, and is popular among the Country, Christian and Pop crowds, something the other “Idol” winners have yet to achieve.

Coming in second with 26 percent of the votes is Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson.

Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks, who is dubbed the "Soul Patrol," and Jordin Sparks from the last season of "Idol," each received seven percent of the votes.

Fantasia Barrino of Season 3 was in fifth place with four percent while Season 2 Ruben Studdard finished last with two percent of the votes. The "Velvet Teddy Bear" has had two albums to date but has since disappeared from the music scene and is now without a label, after J Records reportedly dropped him near the end of 2007.

In the same poll, Jason Castro was voted the most overrated contestant of the latest season of “Idol” while David Cook and David Archuleta are running neck and neck in terms of best performances of the seventh season of the competition.

Catch the final showdown between the Davids on Wednesday and the results show on Thursday, 10pm on Channel 5.
