Sacha Baron Cohen to play Sherlock Holmes

LOS ANGELES: 'Borat' creator and star, Sacha Baron Cohen, is set to play the legendary fictional English detective, Sherlock Holmes in an upcoming Hollywood movie, which has yet to be titled.

The movie by which is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary super sleuth will also star funny man Will Ferrell as Holmes' loyal assistant and sidekick, Dr Watson.

The film by Columbia Pictures reunites Cohen and Ferrell for the first time since their collaboration on the 2006 comedy "Talladega Nights".

Columbia Pictures co-president Matt Tolmach said: "Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson makes us laugh."

"They are two of the funniest and most talented guys on the planet, and having them take on these two iconic characters is frankly hilarious," he added.

Judd Apatow and Jimmy Miller, who are the brains behind a string of hit comedies, including "The 40-year-old Virgin" and "Superbad", are set to co-produce this upcoming Sherlock Holmes film.

They had previously worked with Cohen and Ferrell on "Talladega Nights" as well.

The movie spoof is reportedly one of two major projects based on the famed British private eye that is currently in the works.

According to Daily Variety, Warner Bros is working on a drama which is to be directed by Guy Ritchie.
