A sweet treat for music star Elton John

MONTPELIER, Vermont : The cool guys of Ben and Jerry’s have created a special ice-cream in honour of legendary Brit music star Sir Elton John.

"Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road" is the latest celebrity inspiration and was created to mark the singer's first ever concert in Vermont – the home of Ben and Jerry's - next week in front of a sell-out crowd at the Champlain Valley Fair.

He’s performed in every other US state.

"I can’t think of a more fun way to celebrate playing my 50th state, Vermont, then having Ben and Jerry’s create a special ice cream with all my favourite flavours and ingredients," John said.

"Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road" consists of "an outrageous symphony of decadent chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cookie dough, butter brickle and white chocolate chunks" and is a take-off on his 1970s album and song "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road".

"It’s hard to cram 50 years of musical history that Elton John brings to the table in one pint," said Sean Greenwood, a spokesman for Ben and Jerry’s Homemade Holdings Inc.

The custom flavour was concocted with input from John himself and the star has given his stamp of approval to the ice cream, even though he hasn't actually tasted it, Greenwood said.

"He said, 'Chocolate and peanut butter, guys, if you can make something like that work,'" said Greenwood.

The limited-edition treat will only be available for a week, from July 18-25 in company’s Vermont scoop shops, in anticipation of Elton’s Vermont show on July 21.

Proceeds from the flavour will benefit the rocker’s own AIDS foundation.

Ben and Jerry’s have also created products that have honoured late Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia ("Cherry Garcia"), Dave Matthews Band ("Dave Matthews Band Magic Brownies Encore Edition") and Vermont-bred jam rockers Phish ("PhishFood").
