Paris Hilton hits back at John McCain with spoof ad

LOS ANGELES : American socialite Paris Hilton has 'entered' the US presidential race with a spoof ad, declaring to campaign against "that wrinkly white-haired guy" and picking Rihanna as her running mate.

This was in response to Republican candidate John McCain's TV ad last week comparing Democrat Barack Obama to Hilton, suggesting his presidential opponent was no more than a celebrity candidate unready to lead the nation.

In the spoof on Funnyordie.com, the 27-year-old appears reclining on a sun lounger beside a swimming pool, dressed only in a skimpy bathing costume saying, "Hey America, I'm Paris Hilton and I'm a celebrity, too. Only I'm not from the olden days and I'm not promising change like that other guy. I'm just hot.

"But then that wrinkly, white-haired guy used me in his campaign ad, which I guess means I'm running for president. So thanks for the endorsement white-haired dude and I want America to know that I'm, like, totally ready to lead."

Hilton then signs off by declaring that she is considering her choices for vice-president. "I'm thinking Rihanna," she said, referring to the singer-songwriter.

"I'll see you at the White House," Hilton adds. "Oh, and I might paint it pink. Bye!"

Hilton's mother, who with her husband, have donated US$4,600 to McCain's campaign earlier in the year, has said McCain's ad is "a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs."

Entitled "Celeb," the ad flashes pictures of Hilton and pop star Britney Spears, along with footage of Obama's reception by Germans during a recent trip to Berlin.

Obama has dismissed the ad. "I don't pay attention to John McCain's ads, although I do notice that he doesn't seem to have anything very positive to say about himself, does he?"
