KUALA LUMPUR: Avril Lavigne’s concert may just be too hot for Malaysia’s youth.

Islamists in Malaysia want Lavigne’s concert cancelled, deeming the concert to promote wrong values and her moves on stage "too sexy", an official from the youth wing of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party said Monday.

A party official, Kamarulzaman Mohamed, said, “We don't want our people, our teenagers, influenced by their performance. We want clean artistes, artistes that are good role models.”

The political group is working to bar the concert, scheduled on August 29, by sending protest letters to the Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry and the Kuala Lumpur mayor.

The government has not given the approval for the concert yet, and the application will be looked into on Tuesday, said an official from the Culture Ministry.

However, a spokesman for Galaxy Group, the concert’s organiser, said that the feedback from authorities had been encouraging and the company is positive about receiving the permit. He further denied any controversies in Lavigne’s show.

All performers in Malaysia are required to be covered from chest to knees, and clothes they don should not have any obscene or drug-related images. Jumping, shouting, hugging and kissing on stage must also be avoided.

The Canadian punk-pop princess will kickstart "The Best Damn Tour" in Kuala Lumpur and close in Beijing on October 6. She will perform at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on September 7.
