LOS ANGELES : Former “Batman” actor Michael Keaton is set to be Barbie’s male counterpart in “Toy Story 3”.
Keaton will voice Ken, Barbie’s longtime boyfriend, in the third instalment of the animated 3D Disney film, which is scheduled for release in 2010.
Fans who are looking forward to an on-screen kiss between the two plastic dolls may be disappointed, as a studio insider said, “There's an embrace (between Barbie and Ken) but not kissing. Toy executives want to keep Barbie's squeaky clean image."
The movie, with the first two instalments screened in 1995 and 1999, will see the return of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to voice the two main characters, a cowboy doll named Woody and spaceman Buzz Lightyear.
Barbie will be voiced by Jodi Benson, best known for being the voice of Ariel in “The Little Mermaid”.
Keaton, 56, has some experience with animated films as well, with his role as an obnoxious green racecar, Chick Hicks, in Pixar’s 2006 “Cars”.
The plot of the film follows Woody, Buzz, and the rest of their toy-box friends who are dumped in a day-care centre after their owner, Andy, departs for college.
