SINGAPORE: The actor, who dressed up as his character in the 1998 feature film Forever Fever, performed at the annual W!ld Rice Ball, which was held on Friday at the grand ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton Millenia.

The charity gala, held to raise funds for the W!ld Rice theatre company, was hosted actress Karen Tan. The First Lady, Mrs S R Nathan, was the guest-of-honour.

About 660 attendants raised S$350,000 for the company, which has, over the last year, presented shows such as Asian Boys 3: Happy Endings, The Campaign to Confer the Public Service Star on JBJ, and Beauty World.

The disco theme of the evening was played up by DJ Shigeki from Australia, who played disco classics all night long. Guests were decked out in vintage gear, with one table boldly attending dressed up as the Village People.

W!ld Rice artistic director Ivan Heng said the ball was “a wonderful celebration every year when the great and the good of Singapore society come together to invest financially for the survival and development of home-grown theatre”.

He also noted that this year’s event had managed to raise more funds than any year since its inception in 2002.

After the performance, guests joined the performers on the dance floor, where they boogied and did their best John Travolta impressions into the wee hours of the morning. -
