LONDON : Take That is not content with just a successful comeback.
Frontman Gary Barlow plans to write an official musical based on the band's career, and hopes to rope in former member Robbie Williams to help with the project.
The boyband, hugely popular in the 1990s, disbanded after Williams left the group in 1996. They recently regrouped in 2005, and has since made a comeback with a successful tour and new album.
Take That recently found themselves unwilling subjects of a stage production “Never Forget”, which launched in London’s West End in May to positive reception.
The band were eager to distance themselves from the production, posting the following statement on their website, “The band would like to state categorically that this production is being undertaken with neither their involvement nor their endorsement. They would wish their fans and the general public to know that this production is absolutely and 100 per cent nothing to do with Take That.”
But now, Barlow, 37, wishes for his own version of a musical portraying Take That’s stellar rise to fame.
He said, “We have a musical in us and if we can all agree on which bits of the story to include, we'll have a hit show.”
The lead singer also leaves behind his previous feud with Williams, insisting on having the latter contribute to the project.
“It would be good if Robbie got involved. After all, he is part of the story,” he said.
Barlow and Williams had a feud fuelled by the media in the late 1990s, when Williams’ solo career overshadowed Barlow's.
