LOS ANGELES: Jury selection has begun in Britney Spears’ driver’s license case.

The first slate of potential jurors arrived on Wednesday morning at the San Fernando Valley courtroom where Spears' case will be heard.

As the single charge of driving without a valid license is a misdemeanor, the 26 year-old pop princess was not required to appear in court during the trail.

The case stems from an August 2007 incident in which Spears hit another car in a Los Angeles parking lot while being pursued by the paparazzi.

However, this incident has since been settled with the struck car’s owner outside of court for an undisclosed amount.

Prosecutors say that Spears was legally required to have a Californian license since she has been a resident in California since May 2006.

At the time of the collision, she only held her home state Louisiana’s license.

Spears may face up to six months in jail and a US$1000 fine.
