LOS ANGELES: Michael won't make up a five for the planned Jackson 5 reunion.
Just a day after Jackson bother Jermaine released news that a Jackson 5 reunion was in the works, the King of Pop denied all intentions of being involved in a music tour with his siblings.
"My brothers and sisters have my full love and support, and we've certainly shared many great experiences, but at this time I have no plans to record or tour with them," the self-proclaimed King of Pop said a statement.
Jackson, 50, said he was in the studio working on "new and exciting projects."
"I am now in the studio developing new and exciting projects that I look forward to sharing with my fans in concert soon.”
Jackson’s statement contradicts that of his brother Jermaine, 53 who said in Australia on Wednesday that the hit 1970s band would be coming together for a world tour in 2009.
Speaking to the Australian Associated Press, Jermaine said, “It is going to be more like a family affair- Janet’s going to open and, of course, the original Jackson 5… Michael, Randy and the whole family… we’re in the studio, we’re planning on being out there next year.”
Jermaine made similar claims in 2003 and 2007 about the group reuniting, neither of which came to fruition.
Brothers Michael, Marlon, Tito, Jackie and Jermaine are the original members of the Jackson 5, which rose to fame in the 1970s with songs like "ABC" and fronted by the youngest of the group, Michael.
Randy Jackson, one of the judges on hit TV series American Idol, joined the band after Jermaine's departure in 1976.
When Michael left the group in 1984 to pursue his more successful solo career, Jermaine took the chance to rejoin.
The last time all Jackson brothers performed together on stage was in 2001 at a celebration of Michael's 30th anniversary as a solo artist.
The group last toured in 1984, by which time Michael was a huge star in his own right.
