Asia's best honoured at CCTV-MTV Music Honors

BEIJING : Some 6,000 fans gathered to honour top Asian artistes for their contributions to the music industry in Mainland China at the 9th CCTV-MTV Music Honors on Sunday.

Jointly hosted by Vanness Wu, MTV China VJ JuJu, CCTV anchors Li Si Si and Ren Lu Yu, this year’s show packed a unique punch as traditional Chinese elements such as Taichi and the Beijing Opera were infused with hip hop performances to create a special blend.

Fans were treated to a star-studded line up of performances as artistes like Vanness Wu, Big Mouth, Eason Chan and Jolin Cai took centre stage at the Beijing Worker’s Gymnasium.

Canto-pop singer Eason Chan picked up his second award for Most Popular Male Artist of the Year in Hong Kong while singer and actress Karen Mok was named the Most Popular Female Artist of the Year.

Tan Jing claimed the award for Best Female Artist of the Year for Mainland China while Wang Feng was honoured as the Best Male Artist of the Year, and Taiwanese fans picked Show Lo and Jolin Cai as the Most Popular Male and Female Artists of the year.

Taiwan's latest diva Joanna Wang was named Most Popular New Female Artist of the Year in Hong Kong and Taiwan, while James Hsiao took home Most Popular New Male Artist of the Year award and Soda Green, the Most Popular Group of the Year.

The night was also graced by Jacky Chan and Xiao Ke who received the Special Contribution to Music Award for their contribution to the Beijing Olympics and Sichuan earthquake.

Other winners include Chen Hao and Pang Long who won the Most Popular Female and Male Artiste of the Year awards respectively, Yao Bei Na for Most Popular New Artist of the Year, Best Group of the Year went to Super Junior M and Xu Wei's "Love As A Young Man" won Best Album of the Year.

“Bejing Welcomes You” clinched the Best Video of the Year award. It also won Best Song of the Year, together with “Death Will Not Separate Us”.

The 9th CCTV-MTV Music Honors premieres on MTV China (StarHub Ch51) at 8pm on 28 November.
