LOS ANGELES: Animal activists have written to the King of Pop, begging him to rescue the giraffes which he used to keep at his Neverland ranch.

Representatives from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) claim that four giraffes, which used to roam free on Neverland ranch, have been confined in cramped and unsuitable conditions for over a year. They have written to Jackson and asked him to intervene on the animals' behalf.

"More than a year later, the giraffes are still confined to pens that allegedly each measure approximately 15 feet by 15 feet, and the animals reportedly have not been receiving adequate veterinary or husbandry care," a former volunteer caretaker said.

Faced with mounting financial woes, Jackson sold the giraffes to a couple in Arizona, who were reportedly planning to open a zoo.

The giraffes may be out of Jackson’s life, but animal activists strongly believe that he still has the responsibility to see that the animals do not suffer.
