HONG KONG : Seven-time Bond Roger Moore has sung the praises of current 007 Daniel Craig, saying the actor was "marvellous" as the British spy.
Speaking at a press conference in Hong Kong to promote his latest auto-biography "My World Is My Bond", the 81-year-old said Craig had brought a fresh dimension to the character.
"All of those parts were very, very different to one's conception of Bond ... I thought he was absolutely marvellous," he said of Craig's acting in "Casino Royale", adding that Craig's previous roles in Steven Spielberg's political thrillers “Munich” and “Sylvia” helped to shape a new Bond.
He has yet to see Craig's latest turn as agent 007 in "Quantum of Solace".
When Craig was first announced as the new Bond in 2005, fans had doubts as to whether the stage-trained actor with little action experience could pull off the role.
Well, the numbers speak for themselves. "Casino Royale" raised a total of US$600 million while his "Quantum of Solace" has brought in US$420,000 so far, making him the most successful Bond in terms of box office sales.
Craig is expected to return for a third Bond film, the 23rd in the series.
