NASSAU – Actor John Travolta's son, Jett, died from a "seizure disorder", a Bahamas home funeral official said on Monday after pathologists performed an autopsy on the body of the 16-year-old who passed away suddenly in the family’s holiday home last week.
Results of the autopsy were not made public.
Glen Campbell, assistant director of the funeral home handling the remains of Travolta’s son, said the death certificate gave no information about the cause of death beyond the words "seizure disorder".
He added that the body is in "great condition" and showed no sign of head trauma, despite police officials saying that the teenager may have hit his head on a bathtub.
Jett, who had a history of seizures, was found lying unconscious in a bathroom at his family’s home in the Old Bahamas Bay resort on Grand Bahamas Island last Friday morning. He was pronounced dead after he was taken to Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport by ambulance.
Travolta’s lawyers, Michael Ossi and Michael McDermott, were quoted as saying Jett had suffered from grand mal seizures which can cause loss of consciousness. They also added that teenager had been suffering about one extremely serious seizure a week after his anti-seizure medication was suspended due to concern about the side effects which it caused.
John Travolta and his wife, actress Kelly Preston, released a statement on Sunday, expressing their grief.
“Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered.” Travolta said.
“We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time that we had with him for the rest of our lives.”
