The Little Nyonya sweeps Professional Categories

SINGAPORE : The little one has picked up seven awards in the Professional Categories in the lead-up to Sunday's Star Awards, where it has 14 nominations in five categories. Yes, we're talking about MediaCorp's hit Chinese language drama, "The Little Nyonya".

The Peranakan-themed series won awards for Best Production Design, Best Screenplay, Best Theme Song, Top Rated Drama Serial, Best Editing, and Best Director - for Chia Men Yiang and Chong Liung Man - at the Star Awards gala dinner and awards ceremony for Professional Categories on Tuesday.

"I’m very happy with this achievement," the show's scriptwriter Ang Eng Tee, told TODAY.

"It was quite difficult because I had to spend a lot of time researching the Nyonya culture ... It was a special challenge for me."

Other winners include "Rhythm of Life" for Best Music & Sound Effects, 'Life Transformers' for Top Rated Variety Programme and "TR - In the Face of Death" for Best Info-Ed Programme and Regene Lim who received the Young Talent Award for "Perfect Cut".

"The Little Nyonya" which traces the life of a long-suffering Peranakan woman, is also nominated for Best Drama Serial, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress awards. Tune in to the live telecast of the Star Awards this Sunday on Channel 8 at 7pm to see if "The Little Nyonya" will continue its winning streak.
