LOS ANGELES - Liam Neeson is in talks to star in a big-screen action film based on 1980s television series "The A-Team," entertainment industry reports said Tuesday.
Neeson, 57, most recently seen in the hit thriller "Taken," was in negotiations to play the role of Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith, the character made famous by George Peppard in the television series, Daily Variety reported.
Production on the film, which is being produced by "Gladiator" director Ridley Scott, is to get underway in August with the movie scheduled for release in June 2010, Variety reported.
In March, Neeson was rocked by the death of his wife, actress Natasha Richardson, following a fall while skiing in Canada.
Another actor linked to the "A-Team" project is Bradley Cooper, the star of hit comedy "The Hangover," who is being lined up to play the role of Lieutenant Templeton "Faceman" Peck.
Spanning five seasons and nearly 100 episodes, "The A-Team" followed the fortunes of a group of US Army Special Forces soldiers wrongly convicted of a crime who escape prison to become mercenaries.
