TAIPEI : Taiwanese pop stars and former couple Jay Chou and Jolin Tsai have stepped out to deny rumours of a reconciliation after it was reported that the pair were opening restaurants in China.

According to a mainland China report, the singers plan to open their respective food outlets in Shanghai at the end of the month.

Chou, who was in Guangzhou over the weekend, told reporters that the outlets in China are being opened by his dance teacher and that he does not have a share in it.

When asked about the name of his Taipei cake shop Mr Qute, which is coincidentally very similar to the title of Tsai's song "Mr Q", the 30-year-old said, "I love magic. So I decided to name my food outlets according to the sequence of the poker cards 'JQK'. Together with my friends, we named our first restaurant Mr J and planned to follow up with Mr Q.

"When Jolin released a song titled 'Mr Q', I renamed my cake shop to Mr Qute to prevent any misunderstanding."

Meanwhile, Tsai, who is in Beijing to celebrate the success of her latest album "Butterfly", told reporters that she has no plans to open any restaurants and denied any romantic links with her former beau, saying she and Chou, who split four years ago, have always been good friends.
