BEIJING : First he pulled out as director of "The Green Hornet", now Hong Kong comedian Stephen Chow has decided to leave the production altogether.
Chow, originally slated to direct the Hollywood film and co-star as sidekick Kato to Seth Rogen's Green Hornet, dropped out as director in December so he could develop a superhero movie with Jack Black. But the "Kung Fu Hustle" star remained on board to play Kato, a role previously made famous by Bruce Lee in the 1960s TV series of the same name.
"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" director Michel Gondry will now helm the movie.
"There was a mutual and amicable decision by both sides to move on," a Columbia Pictures spokesperon said in a statement.
"We are out now to cast a new Kato and remain fully committed to Michel Gondry's exciting vision for the film, which will begin production this September."
