SINGAPORE : MediaCorp actress Fiona Xie hasn’t gone MIA (missing in action). In fact, viewers will soon get to see Xie on the telly as she embarks on a journey in search of Singaporean food overseas.
After her shocking withdrawal from upcoming Channel 8 blockbuster drama “Together”, Xie had everyone guessing whether she was quitting showbiz all together.
There were rumours that the ”personal reasons” the 27-year-old actress cited for pulling out of what was considered a Star Awards-worthy role, were that she didn’t find her character as the resident vain pot and antagonist to be appealing to the viewers. There was also talk that Xie had gone “into hiding” overseas after a recent break-up, while others wondered if she was pregnant.
While Xie has not emerged to make any clarifications, two things’ for sure – she’s not leaving showbiz, at least not yet, and she’s not pregnant.
Local media reported that Xie will host food programme “Singapore Flavours”, alongside actors Chen Hanwei, Mark Lee and YES 93.3 FM DJ Dennis Chew. The programme explores how Singaporean food evolves and gets localised in other countries, and will see its hosts travelling to the United States, England, Japan and India, amongst others.
Xie will begin filming on August 4 and will be heading to Tokyo and Los Angeles for ten days.
The show’s producer, Wu Yong Hwa, revealed that when she contacted Xie through the star’s manager, she was told that the star was "vacationing" in Canada.
Wu, however, said she had not heard any news of Xie quitting showbiz.
