TAIPEI : Taiwanese singer-actor Nicky Wu reportedly filed for divorce from his Chinese actress wife, Ma Ya Shu, at the beginning of the year, media reported.
Wu and Ma married in 2006 amidst criticism that Ma was the third party in Wu’s previous relationship with Hong Kong actress Ada Choi.
And yet another “third party” appears to be the cause of this split.
Ma was reportedly seen checking into a hotel in Hengdian, China, with a Caucasian man only identified as James, and did not leave the premises for three days.
Wu’s mother, who lives in Taiwan, was obviously affected by the news of her son’s divorce and revealed that Wu “has been unhappy the past two years”. She added that Wu kept the divorce to himself because he did not want her to worry about his relationship matters.
Ma’s manager confirmed that the couple had indeed filed for divorce but have been too busy to finalise the procedure in Kunming. She declined to comment on whether the Chinese actress was seeing someone else.
However, on Monday, Ma admitted to reporters that a handsome American businessman, who’s based in China, was wooing her.
Ma revealed that they had met through a friend some time back and when James learned that she was working in Hengdian, paid her a surprise visit which made her extremely happy.
And Ma is not the only one who appears to have moved on.
Of late, Wu has also been rumoured to be seeing Taiwanese actress Cheryl Yang, after being caught on numerous occasions together. Both Yang and Wu, who starred in the drama “The Days When Morning Glory Bloomed” together, have strongly denied these rumours.
“We were going out with the whole production team! You [reporters] always allude to [our relationship], this is not good for a girl. It was so obviously a whole group of people going out to have fun, why do you only photograph us [Yang and Wu]?” said Wu angrily when asked about the rumours.
Netizens have been extremely supportive of Wu and even commented on his blog saying, “We support you big boss, you can do without this kind of woman.”
