TAIPEI : Much buzz has been generated since Columbia Pictures confirmed that they had attained the rights to remake the classic comic book series “The Green Hornet”.
Not only was famed Hong Kong actor Stephen Chow asked to direct the film, he was also set to play Kato, the Asian masked maidservant to masked crime fighter, Britt Reid (The Green Hornet himself).
Despite the show’s tentative release date for next year, filming has been put on hold since Chow stepped down as director and subsequently his acting role, leaving the movie’s production team scrambling to find a replacement.
Now, rumour has it that Taiwanese singer Jay Chou will be the one to take over Chow’s role as Kato.
On Monday, Chow’s close friend and actor Tin Kai Man revealed in his blog that Columbia Pictures had already found a replacement in Chou.
He added that that Chou was picked because producers wanted someone who was not only well-known but also a fan of Bruce Lee, to commemorate the late martial artist and actor.
When probed by reporters, Tin said with much certainty, “I have my source,” adding that the singer will head to America once he is done directing his own movie, “Pandamen”.
Chou’s agent said she could not confirm the news.
