SINGAPORE: It is hard to miss Adrian Pang these days. He is either popping up on our television screens in his Speedos in water polo-themed drama "Polo Boys", or on the big screen as the foul-mouthed protagonist in local movie "The Blue Mansion".
And if that's not enough, we will soon see him hamming it up on Mandarin variety programme "New City Beat" and English legal drama, "The Pupil".
At 43 years old, the lawyer-turned-actor is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, he is in such great shape (have you seen him in "Polo Boys"?), I decided to ask him for some workout tips.
"That wasn't me. If you do a close-up, you will realise that was my body-double. I hired him to do all my scenes,” said the funnyman, before revealing that his 'workout' consists of playing with sons, Zack, 10, and Xander, 8, as well as pounding the tracks.
He added that working with his hormone-raging co-stars in "Polo Boys" was akin to reliving his long-lost youth.
"It's hard to find like-minded guys these days who can talk rubbish all the time. We talk quite a lot of sex, girls, sex, girls…" he said.
"They are just great to work with. Great bunch of guys with distinct personalities."
Despite having to 'parade' in flaming red Speedos, which he claimed he wasn't informed about beforehand, Pang doesn't have any issue with showing some skin on screen.
"In fact, there isn't enough flesh shown on television," said the actor, who's always game for challenges.
So game that he is once again stepping out of his comfort zone to host in Mandarin. Pang joins popular MediaCorp hosts Bryan Wong, Kym Ng and Gurmit Singh on the Mandarin variety programme, "New City Beat", the revamped version of the award-winning "City Beat".
For someone who has been immersed in an English environment since his childhood days, Pang admitted that Chinese was never his forte and will probably never be.
So why did he agree to host the show?
"Yeah, what was I thinking?" he replied in jest, before adding that it was after all a job and he will accept any project that comes his way. He joked that both he and Gurmit will probably perish in the show and they have a competition to see who can speak the least amount of Mandarin on a Chinese variety programme.
"But I think Gurmit will win. His Chinese is really bad," said Pang, adding that he hopes viewers will be very patient with the both of them.
Besides "New City Beat" which debuts on December 25, Pang will also be starring in new legal drama "The Pupil", alongside Rebecca Lim and Lim Kay Tong, as well as another Mandarin drama next month.
But the multi-talented artiste wants more. In fact, he even asked this reporter to help him keep a lookout for new opportunities.
"If you have any openings, do inform me. I will do anything," replied Pang.
Even non G-rated projects?
"Yes!" he replied without missing a beat. - CNA/fa
