SINGAPORE : If you’re a fan of “Sony Style” and “Technomax” on AXN, the name Oli Pettigrew should not be alien to you.

The 27-year-old model, actor and presenter is one of Asia’s rising stars.

If you think he is just another pretty face, Pettigrew will prove you wrong. The Hong Kong born British has a Bachelor in Corporate Communication and was back in Hong Kong at 18 years old when he stepped into the world of modeling.

Speaking to Melanie Oliveiro on 938LIVE's That's Showbiz, Pettigrew shared how he got into showbiz and his American dream.

He was not talent spotted though Pettigrew wished his story was “as cool as that”. Instead, it was his enthusiastic mum, who probably knew her son could put those good looks into good use, and set him up with a modelling agency.

Pettigrew went to the interview and got his first modeling job in that same week.

He began his career by appearing in a series of photoshoots, commercials and fashion shows, so many that he has lost count.

Despite clinching modelling contracts with a number of famous international brands like Levis, nothing is too small for the talented artiste, who has done car ads, deodorant commercials and even landed himself a role in Hong Kong blockbuster “Gen Y Cops”, as the henchman of the leading baddie.

Pettigrew, who is married to a fellow TV host and model, said he was all ready to pack up and leave for Hollywood with his wife when they found out she was pregnant. The couple decided to put aside their plans and settle for stability.

“It really gives you the inspiration, your wife’s having a baby, you get that fear,” said Pettigrew. “So I said ‘that’s it honey, we can’t go. We’re staying and I’m going to find work.’”

This decision turned out to be a lucky break for Pettigrew as the success of season two of “Sony Style”, which was screened across 20 countries, propelled him into the limelight.

But Pettigrew is not letting go of his dreams to Hollywood.

He plans to stay in Asia for a couple of years and move the family to the United States when the right opportunity hits.

But until then, Pettigrew will stay in our sunny shores until his baby’s “grown up a bit”. – CNA/yt
