SINGAPORE : We all have learnt from fairytales, that all princesses and princes live happily ever after and usually in castles that stand either deep in a forest or on a hill.

In Singapore, the nearest forest that hides the local blue-bloods is the one surrounding MacRitchie Reservoir and the hill, is Caldecott Hill no less.

While there is no castle at the home of media and entertainment, there’s the Caldecott Queen and seven MediaCorp ‘princesses’ including Joanne Peh who hosts the latest infotainment and magazine programme to hit local television screens, “The Princess and The Prince” which debuted May 29.

Peh shares the limelight with Dasmond Koh who is no frog although he doesn’t count himself as a prince, as Dai Yangtian (featured in the first episode) and Qi Yuwu have been dubbed.

Together, Peh and Koh peep into the lives of local idols, looking at everything from their fashion favourites to how they prepare themselves for a photo-shoot, and even what they look for in their ideal partner.

“Getting them to open up was one concern the production team had initially, but the experience has been good,” said Peh of interviewing the princes whom she counts as her personal friends.

“One soundman actually said the amount of words Qi Yuwu spoke to me in one episode is what he normally would have said in three months!” she added.

This is a show that aims to satisfy all, if not most, of your curiosity.

So if you want to know if you shape up as the kind of girl Qi Yuwu likes, keep watching.

But if Dai Yangtian is your dish, keep tabs on what happens in your kitchen and then find out just how you can reach his heart through his stomach, just like a typical guy.

There are also the ‘princesses’ such as Jeanette Aw, who is featured in the next episode which airs June 26.

A man who packs a six pack (and we’re not talking beer here) is what gets Aw going “aawwww” and getting that juicy insight made this the most memorable assignment for Koh.

“I see a side of Jeanette which is totally different from what I (thought) she was,” said Koh who then went on to rave about the “yummy” cupcakes made by the ‘little nyonya’.

“I know Fiona and Joanne pretty well so there aren’t a lot of surprises for me to discover. For Paige (Chua), I knew very little about her so it was all about exploring and getting familiar,” said Koh.

Not a good choice of words, but hopefully you get the (right) picture.

To find out just how well Koh went about “exploring” Paige Chua and the other young rulers of the heart, catch “The Princess and The Prince” which airs on the last Friday of each month, 8pm on Channel 8.
