SINGAPORE : There’s no doubt that MediaCorp actress Felicia Chin would make a yummy mummy but till that day comes, viewers would have to content with her being a terror mum from hell.

The 24-year-old is set to play a single mother with a one-year-old toddler, in new MediaCorp drama “Baby Bonus” which also stars Tay Ping Hui and Jesseca Liu. This is the first time viewers will see Chin playing a mother from start to finish on the small screen.

Chin’s character, Huang Li Ping, a 22-year-old with a dysfunctional family background, drops out of school and bears a son out of wedlock, Olympic, whom she regards as a burden. To make ends meet, she works at a billiard parlour and has no qualms about “throwing” her son over to her neighbour, played by Tay, to babysit.

While this is considered a breakthrough role for Chin, the actress admits that she had her reservations and did not accept it immediately. “When my agent informed me about the role, I was apprehensive. I’m going to be a mum?” she said.

She was worried that she could not perform up to the task but after reading the script, she realised that her character is very young and she readily took up the offer.

Chin revealed that in the past, she would stay away from babies as she is afraid of dropping them but all that has changed since she accepted the role. “Recently, when my god-sister and friends gave birth, I tried carrying the babies and it all came quite naturally. The babies seemed delighted,” she beamed.

But that has not inspired the actress to start her own brood.

“To be honest, I am unsure whether I will have children in the future. It takes a lot of responsibility to have a child.”

While Chin is not ready to jump on the baby bandwagon just yet, she does not rule out the possibility of an early marriage, if she the right person comes along. But the 24-year-old thinks that is quite unlikely. “I have a gut feeling that I only marry after I hit 30,” she said.

“Baby Bonus” is scheduled to air on Channel 8 in September.
