SINGAPORE : Singapore's best-selling men's magazine, FHM, has just become better than ever, thanks to a whole new 24-page section devoted to helping you step up your game, make the most of your time and improve your life. That's why it's called Upgrade.
"It's a whole section devoted to helping you play and work better," explained FHM's senior editor, David Fuhrmann-Lim.
"It will feature fitness training regimes, useful diets, career and financial advice, relationship tips and a black book of hotspots to go to. While we've always featured sports and fitness, this Upgrade section helps to put all the information into a handy area for the reader."
That's not all that's different.
"The main magazine has been re-designed somewhat to help our time-challenged readers," David continued.
"Information is presented in a more accessible and 'pop-up' way to help people digest news faster. We have to adapt the magazine to the changing tastes and lifestyles of our readers."
But don't worry, the real essence of FHM hasn't changed, said David. "It's still sexy, funny, useful and irreverent. The main section will still have our funny features, groundbreaking stories, useful fashion news, and reliable reviews."
And of course, let's not forget the customary spread of hot celebrities and models on the cover and in the stylish spreads within the mag.
The feminine pulchritude that has graced the magazine's covers includes the undeniably hot Andrea Fonseka, Magic Babe Ning, Beatrice Chia-Richmond, Celest Chong and Denise Keller, among many others. All of whom have had nothing but praise for the magazine's direction.
When Beatrice sizzled in lingerie on the July 2006 cover, she received messages from her friends who passed by magazine racks saying "'Gasp!' and 'Gawk!'", she said. "But yes, I got nothing but compliments. If anybody said anything, it was a compliment. If it wasn't a compliment, I don't think it was said to my face!"
As for Celest's sultry February 2009 cover, the actress said: "It was a completely enjoyable shoot because I got to work with stylist Fong Fan, photographer Joel Low and David Fuhrmann-Lim.
"It was very hot at the outdoor 'desert' shoot, but the pictures turned out great and I was very happy. It was great fun and I look forward to my next cover."
MTV VJ Denise Keller's cover shoot for September this year was welcome relief from "wading the swamps of Borneo", where she was filming Passage To Malaysia.
"I'm really happy I took time off from filming to be transformed into a glamour puss for the cover shoot," said Denise. "The creative team made me feel comfortable during the shoot at all times, even with a tonne of hair extensions stuck to my head!"
Well, we'd probably take having fake hair over hanging about in a swamp any day, too. At least you can read the new FHM at the salon.
The December issue of FHM is out now at newsstands.
