TAIPEI : One in three Taiwanese women would marry other men if they were given a second chance in life, according to a survey published Tuesday, amid warnings that the island was facing an "infidelity crisis".
The figure for Taiwanese men who would swap their wives for new ones if only they could was lower, at 17 per cent, according to a survey of 1,076 married people conducted by the private Millennium Cultural and Educational Foundation.
The foundation, which promotes family values, warned of a growing "infidelity crisis" as 9.1 per cent of the couples interviewed reported having been through extramarital affairs.
The survey showed 11.5 per cent considered such affairs "playing games and nothing to be taken seriously", while more than half said it was okay to be close friends with members of the opposite sex after marriage.
Taiwan's divorce rate has been increasing annually in the past decade to 11.1 per cent in 2008, according to the latest government figures.
