SINGAPORE: Lovers in the house, the clock is ticking towards Valentine’s Day.
While you relish the thought of cuddling up with your partner and drowning in the deep waters of love, this day could turn out to be a nightmare if you haven’t worked up your brain for that perfect gift for your partner.
For starters, how about keeping things fresh this February 14 and ditch those flowers and chocolates which are oh-so-passé.

How about shopping, dining and traveling around town, all with the same card?
Flaunt your creativity and personality with a FEVO prepaid Mastercard, and no, you won’t be signaling any deep commitments akin to a subsidiary credit card if you’re afraid of scaring off your sweetheart.
The FEVO is a MasterCard branded prepaid card that’s different from a debit or credit card as cardholders can spend only up to the amount that they have topped up.
Think of it as giving cash, but with more panache.
You can pick a standard design or insert a special photo onto the card that comes with an EZ-link option for use on the bus or train.
Dropping by the FEVO portal, www.fevocard.com, it took just five steps to get a card with a value of between S$20 and $100 that was personalised with a photo from my images folder.
If you’re starting now, it would be best to get a stand-in card as it takes about 14 days before delivery.
Alternatively go on to the next suggestion, and plan this later for an anniversary, birthday or just because gift as you can personalize the card with messages that run from “Treat Yourself” to plain vanilla “A Gift for You” and “Good Luck”, although the latter might send the wrong message.

This is a chocolate sable mellowed with smooth white chocolate ganache, served with fresh strawberries and tart raspberry sorbet.
Set amidst the lush greenery of Dempsey Hill, The Prime Society is near perfect as a romantic dining destination.
Another lush and intimate setting for a Valentine’s night out is Rochester Park where the newest kid on the block, Krish, will impress with its eclectic blend of contemporary cuisine with South Asian accents.
Executive chef Matthew Baker has come up with a menu that doesn’t fall short of bold, rich and daring flavours on February 14.
The meal opens with Tandoori Hamachi served with fish head curry consommé and pickled ginger.
This is followed by Pongal, a traditional South Indian dish prepared with rice and lentils but given a delightful twist with white truffles and wild mushroom, and a
mouth-watering spice crusted prawns with tangy citrus chutney and avocado salad.
Anchoring the menu is a Kobe Sirloin served with parsnip puree, red wine gastrique and pickled corn.
Wrap up your dinner with the Valrhona Chocolate Frangelico Molten served with pink peppercorn sauce and mint yogurt sorbet.
This tempting menu is priced at S$280++ per couple and also includes a bottle of Billecart-Salmon Brut, that’s sure to set you in a bubbly mood.
You can also choose to sip special cocktails at the cozy alfresco deck which boasts a lovely greenhouse bar surrounded by luxuriant foliage. Krish’s signature Boson Sour and Bourbon Smash will set the mood for the rest of the evening. - CNA/vm
