SINGAPORE : A major storm descended upon Singapore on Monday, whirling from Swissotel The Stamford through to Plaza Singapura and finally settling on Vivo City Golden Village cinema. Yes, everyone was screaming for more Cloud and Wind, or should we say Aaron Kwok and Ekin Cheng. There was, however, no Rain. That would be a whole other film.
The two Hong Kong superstars were in town to promote "The Storm Warriors", for which they reprise their roles as Striding Cloud and Whispering Wind - 11 years after the first blockbuster film, "The Storm Riders".
When asked if there was any doubt in re-casting the same actors so many years later, directors Oxide and Danny Pang, who took over the reigns from previous director Andrew Lau, were quick to point out that the two men have retained their ever-youthful good looks.
"Look at them! They never grow old do they? I feel that they look exactly the same," said Oxide at a press conference at the Swissotel Conference Centre. "What's different is they are no longer idols or pop stars like they were 10 years ago. They are now bonafide actors," continued Danny, his twin brother. "We never once thought anyone could ever replace them."
But even though the years might not have taken its toll on their looks, it might have tweaked their waistlines just a bit. "Before Ekin only had a four-pack, but after he was given the script and asked to train, now he has a six-pack! Like chocolate!" laughed the brothers conspiratorially. "But it wasn't us who gave him the pressure - it was our boss (from the film's production company Universe)."
Confessed Ekin, with a laugh: "Yes, it's true. We were out having dinner, and he said to me, 'Actually, you're looking a bit more like Fat Wind instead of Lighting Wind'. He gave me six months so I trained really hard, and ate a lot less and started building up.
"I realised I really was quite fat before!"
The Storm Warriors opens in cinemas on December 10.
