Kamil Haque at the 2004 Athens Games. Haque is the son of one of Singapore's 50 Greatest Athletes, Anwarul Haque.

Seeing my father, who has always been a pretty straight laced man, clearly experiencing an emotional moment was rare as it was heartfelt.

Though personally I have not met him but I grew up during the time he was a Minister. It was always inspiring to hear his speeches and one is always moved by his conviction and dedication to his cause. He was a giant amongst men an a true blue Singaporean. I sadly miss his passing which is a great loss to our country.

My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. We truly lost a great nation leader. Let's remain forever united as one nation so as not to disappoint him for all he had done for Singapore.

A great loss for Singapore. He penned the Singapore Pledge with such simple words but what profound meanings it contains.

From a tiny red dot on the map,
when people say we cannot achieve,
but we did it regardless of language, religion, race,
to build a democratic society.

Without you, we Singaporeans wouldn't be standing side by side, hand in hand helping others in need.

Thank you so much for your contributions made in Singapore.

It saddens me, not only by his demise, but my lack of knowledge and understanding of this man who make his life mission to allow us to enjoy Singapore as it is today.

We saw the departure of what is left of A Few Good Man.

Rest in peace, Sir.
