SINGAPORE : After being in the business for 16 and a half years, Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Howie Dorough are back with another Backstreet Boys album.
This is their seventh overall studio album and second without fifth band member Kevin Richardson. Honestly, their latest Backstreet Boys album entitled "This Is Us" is very much a half-and-half situation. Half the album sounds like their first few albums while the rest sounds nothing like the Backstreet Boys.
The first track on the album, "Straight Through My Heart", is also the first single from the album and probably the best on the album, if I really had to choose.
The upbeat number was produced by Red One, who helped shoot Lady Gaga to fame with the track "Just Dance" but while Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" went on to become a No. 1 hit, I just can’t quite see that happening for "Straight Through My Heart", which I thought was pretty lacklustre.
There were a few tracks that leaked earlier this year that were better than some of the songs that made the final cut.
Why the Backstreet Boys decided to leave off the amazing song "Hologram" which featured vocals by Chris Brown as well as "Trouble" which featured Ne-Yo, are beyond me because those tracks would definitely make a stronger album, in my opinion.
Despite being a fan of the Backstreet Boys, I must say I’m pretty disappointed with “This Is Us”.
