SINGAPORE : “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” is a computer-animated film inspired by a children's book of the same title.
Flint Lockwood is a mad scientist who is the laughing stock of his island-home because of his wacky, useless inventions, that is, until one day he creates a miracle machine that converts water into food.
A freak accident sends the device hurtling into the atmosphere, stuck amongst the clouds, and pretty soon it starts raining whatever food, drink or snack the islanders want.
But grave danger awaits and it is up to Flint, and his lady-love reporter to save the day, or face death by cheeseburger.
Once again, my theory is proven right about how Hollywood is at its best when it comes to animated movies.
With the exception of a few lightweights, most of the major-studio offerings that come under this genre are simply brilliant and entertaining: bursting at the seams with awesomely original plots beyond your wildest imagination, and appealing to the long-forgotten kid in you. Who wouldn't want it to rain donuts or chicken wings or snow ice-cream? Or whatever food that gets your tummy rumbling?
And who wouldn't want to watch a film that is fronted by characters who are just as loveable, flawed and a wee bit bonkers just like you and I? To forget our troubles just for a while and be taken on this bizarrely wonderful adventure?
“Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” will have you eating out of the palm of its hand - pun fully intended - the moment you don those 3D spectacles. It's zany, it's slapstick, it's touching and it's a whole lot of fun.
I loved everything about “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”- it's like a most delicious dish chock-filled with all the right ingredients, cooked to perfection.
