RATING:
Who'd have thought that the same bunch of punk rockers who gave us "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around" back in 1994, would in 2009 end up as the last band standing.
That's right, Green Day first formed in 1987 and had only released seven albums but still managed to sell over 22 million records.
Still living up to their rock ideal, the band is back with its eighth studio album "21st Century Breakdown".
The latest album is a rock opera divided into three parts – Heroes and Cons, Charlatans and Saints, and Horseshoes and Hand grenades. The acts integrate to form an epic telling of a story of two young punk lovers on the run after being sold out by the church, the state, and every adult they have ever believed in.
Whether you agree with their political messages or not, there is no denying that this album has turned a group of punk rockers into a true stadium band worthy of rock star status. "21st Century Breakdown" is currently the band's best performance to date on album charts in the US and Europe.
Green Day has something to say and they are not afraid to say it with this great rock album which has already churned out great radio hits such as "Know Your Enemy" and "21 Guns".
