RATING:
SINGAPORE : “Love Happens” is about finding new love when one least expects it. Jennifer Aniston stars as a florist named Eloise who keeps dating men who cheat on her, while Aaron Eckhart plays Burke Ryan, an Anthony Robbins-esque motivational speaker who helps people overcome grief from the death of a loved one.
But despite his achievements, Burke is unable to come to terms with the tragic demise of his ex-wife, and it is up to Eloise to save him from himself ... if she's patient enough to shoulder his emotional baggage, as well as her own.
“Love Happens” will confuse you. It can't decide if it wants to be a romantic comedy, or a drama, so it keeps switching between the two. However, all that talk about death and denial during the course of the film quickly douses all romantic sparks.
It helps when the two lead characters share a compatible onscreen chemistry but I didn't feel the love between Aniston and Eckhart, so don't let that movie poster trick you into watching this movie. “Love Happens” is tedious and dull, and not very good.
If you really want to see a touching romantic film about grieving and finding love in pastures new, watch “Frankie and Johnny” starring Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer. And as for “Love Happens”, skip it.
