RATING:

SINGAPORE : “My Girlfriend is an Agent” is a Korean action-romantic-comedy film about Soo Ji and Jae Jun, two former lovers who lead double lives.

Soo Ji is a high-level spy working for the National Intelligence Service. Her so-called accountant ex-boyfriend Jae Jun is also a secret agent, but a rookie officer who is so bad, he's one snafu away from being fired.

When a terrorist plot is uncovered, both spies get to work. But will their on and off again relationship threaten not just their mental states but the fate of the world as well?

The spy movie genre has been done to death, mostly by Hollywood, so a discerning movie-goer like you would be able to separate the good ones from the bad.

Is this film bad? I wouldn't say it's an outright stinker, but it's a rather pale imitation of the Western undercover agent flicks we have been exposed to over the years.

Russian baddies intent on world domination? Check. Rogue scientists out for material gain? Check. Bumbling secret agent working alongside the far more experienced one? Hello, “Get Smart”. But then again, many will still watch this film because it's an acceptable date movie and because many of you out there enjoy Korean films and their easy-on-the-eye attractive stars.

Imagine an Asian, more slapstick version of the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie film “Mr and Mrs Smith”. But then again, “Mr and Mrs Smith's” plot was tired and stale to begin with, despite the non-stop action.
