SINGAPORE : At first glance, it's easy to dismiss "Little Big Soldier" as yet another war epic set in ancient China. Any movie produced by Jackie Chan, however, is bound to generate a few giggles.
In this comedic action-adventure, Chan plays a veteran soldier who manages to capture enemy general Wang Lee Hom in the midst of a vicious bloodbath, beginning a grudging companionship with the duo constantly at loggerheads en route to Chan's home state.
Nonetheless, this tepid enmity is the least of our heroes' worries. Among the numerous obstacles the pair face on their adventure is Wang's murderous little brother (Yoo Seung-jun). Turns out, Wang is the Crown Prince and baby bro wants the throne for himself. Nothing like a little sibling rivalry to spice things up.
The film does get dull occasionally, usually when Chan and Wang aren't fighting vicious nomads or tiptoeing around Wang's brother's cronies. Still, it is ultimately the ending that makes "Little Big Soldier" worth watching. Attempting to describe it gives it away, so I'll just say it will leave you floored.
