SINGAPORE : Get ready to fall in love with the latest comedy to hit town, because “I Love You, Man” is one of those rare comedies which you cannot help but love.
This genuinely hilarious comedy manages to stay light-hearted throughout while still managing to tug at your heartstrings.
Paul Rudd stars as the lovable Peter Klaven, a real estate agent who has just gotten engaged to the love of his life Zooey (Rashida Jones from “The Office”). While Peter has always been able to establish a connection with women, the clueless guy seems to be absolutely hopeless at trying to forge friendships with men.
He never really sees this as a problem until he realises he has no one to be his best man at his wedding and that Zooey’s friends think that it’s unhealthy and abnormal for him to not have any close male friends. This sends Peter on a truly disastrous quest to find himself a BFF (best friends forever) and best man.
After numerous failed attempts that leave Peter close to giving up, he bumps into Sydney Fife (Jason Segel) at a viewing of the home of former Incredible Hulk actor Lou Ferrigno. The two quickly hit it off and develop a close bond that leaves Peter almost certain that he has finally found his best man.
While the storyline itself can be considered somewhat predictable, the script is hilarious from beginning to the very end.
Rudd’s character is absolutely adorable, from the ridiculous things he comes up with, to the weird and awkward catch phrases he coins to appear cool. “Working like a Dawwwgg” has never seemed such a lovable line till now!
Segel’s character is a total foil to Rudd’s.
The laid back, cool guy Sydney exudes a self confidence that Peter needs.
At the same time he is outrageously funny in this film, lending a chemistry between the two that is undeniable, from the priceless shenanigans they get up to and their undying love for their all-time favourite band.
Be prepared to laugh heartily at the hilarious, witty and yet moving must-see comedy.
