SINGAPORE: Singapore Customs has launched a new programme to strengthen and safeguard the security of supply chain operations.

The move is seen as boosting Singapore's position as a trusted trade hub.

The Secure Trade Partnership Programme spells out a set of guidelines and goals for the security measures of different players in the supply chain, which includes suppliers, manufacturers, transport carriers and terminal operators.

It is a voluntary certification programme aimed at encouraging companies to adopt strong security practices in their trading operations.

This will in turn protect the integrity of the supply chain and prevent disruptions to the smooth flow of goods.

So far, eight companies, including IBM Singapore, PSA, and YCH DistriPark, have been certified under the programme. - CNA/yy
