SINGAPORE: Education services company GEMS Education on Wednesday opened an office in Singapore.

The kindergarten to grade 12 private school provider plans to use Singapore as a base to expand into the East Asia, China and Pacific Rim region.

Founder and chairman of the firm, Sunny Varkey, said this is its first step in reaching out to communities and governments across Asia.

He added that GEMS will build world class international private schools catering to all segments of society.

The GEMS school model offers a broad range of curricula across a range of tuition fees.

The school said it is used to operating schools of scale and that it is currently operating schools with over 5,000 students.

The company is currently looking at opportunities in China and Australia. It said other target markets include Singapore and Malaysia.
