SINGAPORE: Mainboard-listed Sembcorp Industries said on Friday its third quarter net earnings edged up 2.2 per cent from a year ago to S$148.1 million.

This was after its revenue for the three months ended September gained 3 per cent on-year to S$2.6 billion.

The company said its utilities and marine businesses continued to be its main profit contributors. Profit from its utilities business contracted 21 per cent, while that of its marine business grew 3 per cent in the quarter.

The firm said the improvement in its marine business was mainly due to higher operating margin from its rig building and offshore and conversion projects.

Its environment business, meanwhile, also recorded an increase in earnings due to lower operational costs.

Looking ahead, Sembcorp Industries said sentiments relating to the global economic and financial environment have improved. But it believes the recovery of the global economy will take time.

It said it remains committed to delivering satisfactory operating results for the year.
