SINGAPORE: Lucite International has opened its first Alpha methyl methacrylate or MMA plant on Jurong Island.

The company, which is a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Rayon, said the plant offers a revolutionary way of manufacturing MMA and is now fully operational.

It said the plant will complement its existing facilities in China, the US, Europe, Japan and Taiwan and that the technology will be central to its strategy for global growth.

The company's patented Alpha technology is high-yield and low-cost, requiring lower capital investment than the existing process technologies.

As a result, it has the potential to deliver a substantial cost advantage over conventional MMA technology.

Lucite said it chose Singapore because of its proximity to the Asian market and its established position within the global chemical industry. - 938LIVE
