S'pore leaders meet leaders from Canada, Papua New Guinea and Qatar

SINGAPORE: Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo met his counterparts from Canada and Papua New Guinea at the sidelines of the APEC Ministerial meetings on Wednesday.

Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lawrence Cannon, and Mr Yeo discussed issues pertaining to the G20, including its future development.

They also discussed the complementary role that G20 and APEC could play in global financial system reforms.

The ministers also touched on UN-related issues and bilateral relations.

Papua New Guinea's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration, Samuel Tei Abal discussed bilateral relations and reaffirmed the excellent co-operation with Singapore.

Mr Abal also briefed Mr Yeo on the economic developments in Papua New Guinea. Both ministers also engaged in an exchange of views on regional developments.

Separately, Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry called on Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong at the Istana on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Abdullah Hamad Al-Attiyah and Mr Goh exchanged views on bilateral relations, opportunities for collaboration in the energy sector and the economic opportunities open to both countries in Asia and the Middle East.

The DPM is in Singapore on a 3-day visit to sign a joint venture agreement with Shell in his capacity as chairman of Qatar Petroleum International (QPI).

He last met Mr Goh during his official visit to Singapore in November last year. - CNA/vm
