SINGAPORE: Arnaud Vaissie, the chairman and CEO of International SOS, has been named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2009 in Singapore.
He will head to Monte Carlo next to compete against more than 50 others for the World Entrepreneur Of The Year award.
International SOS is the world's largest medical and security assistance company. The company started in Singapore in 1985 by offering emergency medical services in Southeast Asia for multi-national corporations and tourists.
Today, it operates in 70 countries with 6,000 staff, including 800 doctors, providing international healthcare and integrated medical and security assistance.
Mr Vaissie credits his success to his team and plans to build on this win.
He said: "Just last week, we acquired a significant company in the North Sea, but most importantly we are developing our services in Latin America. Now, this is the area of the world where we have a very tight network of providers but we were not selling our services and now we are really developing over there, starting off with Brazil and Mexico.
"In business, either you do better or you disappear; there is no such thing as a steady course... we have to keep growing, keep improving what we are doing and most importantly we have to keep innovating. Half of the services we offer today are less than 5 years old."
Mr Vaissie, who is also the co-founder of International SOS, received his award at a gala event on Wednesday night. It was double joy for Mr Vaissie, who also won in the "International Healthcare" category of this year's award.
Mr Richard Ong, CEO of Straits Asia Resources, was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the "Natural Resources" category.
The winners were judged on various criteria, including entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, financial performance and strategic direction.
The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award Singapore is now into its 8th year.
