SINGAPORE: US-based provider of specialty printing and software applications, Zebra Technologies, is investing S$10 million in Singapore over the next three years.

It is using the money for a large expansion of its distribution centre here. The headquarters of the Nasdaq-listed company in the Asia Pacific is also in Singapore.

The distribution centre, which was opened earlier this year, is used by the firm to keep its inventory in Singapore, instead of shipping the products to regional clients from the US.

This has enabled the firm to meet the needs of its clients quickly and to better customise its products.

Currently, Zebra Technologies has about 40 staff in Singapore and it is looking at what it described on Thursday as a "significant increase" in headcount.

Anders Gustafsson, CEO of Zebra Technologies, said: "We're looking at adding some more product development capabilities here, expanding our distribution centre and our regular headquarter sales and administrative staff, so it can be certainly in the 50 per cent plus range."

Zebra Technologies said the Asia-Pacific region is its fastest-growing business, with last year's earnings growing by 35 per cent.

Over the past three years, it also expanded its business in the region from 6 per cent of its worldwide revenue to 11 per cent.
