SINGAPORE: Mainboard-listed water treatment firm Hyflux on Monday announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Hydrochem, won a S$95 million contract.

The contract is for the design and supply of a desalination facility for the Salalah Independent Water and Power Project in Oman. The contract marks the first desalination project in Oman for Hyflux.

The desalination facility will have an estimated capacity of about 68,000 cubic metres per day. It is expected to be completed within 22 months from receiving the notice to proceed.

Hyflux said the contract was awarded by a wholly-owned subsidiary of China's Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation.

The Chinese firm was in turn appointed the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the Oman project, by a joint venture between Sembcorp Industries and the Oman Investment Corporation.

The project is not expected to have a material impact on Hyflux's earnings for the current financial year.
