SINGAPORE: The key Straits Times Index (STI) rose 13.96 points to 2,697.52 within minutes of trading on Monday.
The STI fell 61.42 points on Friday. The fall was "the biggest pullback since the market started recovery from March 2009," said AmFraser Securities head of retail research Najeeb Jarhom.
Dealers said mounting fears about tattered government finances in Europe drove the euro down and hammered stock markets across Asia on Friday following New York's worst finish since November.
