SINGAPORE: Singapore shares ended lower on Wednesday despite positive showing across regional markets.
The blue chip Straits Times Index slipped 0.39 per cent or 10.63 points to close at 2,734.39.
Some 1.31 billion shares exchanged hands at a value of S$1.17 billion, with gainers taking an edge over losers 242 to 213.
Meanwhile, major Asian markets advanced on Wednesday as hopes for a rescue package for Greece improved risk appetite, while gains in commodities prices drove resources and shipping stocks higher across the region.
However, gains in many markets were slight as investors remained cautious.
"We still don't know exactly what the rescue plans would look like and which countries will be covered," said Mizuho Securities market analyst Yukio Takahashi, adding that investors are awaiting the outcome of a meeting of the European Union's top officials on Thursday.
